Thanks to working with his Bad Robot production company, a number of TV shows can boast of having J.J. Abrams as an executive producer, even if he has relatively little involvement with the series, and it can often be reflected in the quality, such as Revolution, Almost Human, and Believe. However, when Abrams is actually involved in creating the show, that's when there tends to be more of a guarantee of quality, and one that often gets lost next to, erm, Lost, is Fringe.

Abrams created the show alongside frequent collaborators Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, with Jeff Pinkner (who previously worked on Alias and Lost) serving as showrunner. It tells the story of the Fringe Division of the FBI, a team of agents and scientists who use fringe sciences to investigate a number of strange phenomena.

It blended procedural drama with mystery and fantasy elements, introducing alternate timelines and parallel universe, and despite some initial poor reception it went on to run for five seasons, developing a cult following along the way.
