18 Things You Didn't Know About Game Of Thrones
10. Oh Deer
The deer has had a hard time on the show, whether they were part of House Baratheon or the real thing. In this particular entry though, it's the real ones we're looking at.
During the first season, two very real deer corpses were used, and both made their human cast members gag at the smell. The first appearance came during the first episode, where the deer was found rather than acquired. It had supposedly been dead and rotting for two days by the time they'd found it, and any shot showing both the deer and actors had to be cropped to not show their heads, as they were all grimacing from the smell.
The second deer was being butchered by Charles Dance's Tywin Lannister. It was a real deer once again, and Dance had shown commitment by practicing how to skin a deer with a real butcher. This apparently also stank the tent out, and after 50 takes it must've smelt pretty ripe.
