20 Animated TV Shows That Are Practically Flawless

X-Men Animated Series
Marvel

This animated series wasn't the first time Marvel's X-Men had been adapted for the small screen, but it was far and away their best of many shows, perfectly capturing the scale and action of the comics that gave the team life.

Airing from 1992 to 1997 with five seasons under its belt, X-Men brought the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Professor X, Magneto, Storm and Jean Grey (amongst many others) to life with a level of complexity and daring the team have rarely seen outside the comic books since.

Tackling tricky social issues such as racism, prejudice and mental health, X-Men was remarkable in the depth of its character development and the thrills of its action, and though its animation hasn't aged too well, it still holds up as a stunning achievement in storytelling.

It's not the best superhero show on offer (we'll get there), but it's pretty damn close.
