20 Best 2017 Netflix Original TV Series - Ranked From Worst To Best
13. A Series Of Unfortunate Events
A marvelously charming and stylish adaptation of Lemony Snicket's beloved novels, A Series of Unfortunate Events' first season is shot forward by a fantastic ensemble cast, led by Neil Patrick Harris' deliciously villainous Count Olaf, and an hilariously matter-of-fact Patrick Warburton as narrator Lemony Snicket.
The quirky, off-kilter tone may ultimately be too much for some, not to mention the repetitive nature of the Baudelaires' encounters with Olaf, but the knowing humour, sharp direction and game performances nevertheless lend the show an intoxicating quality that's hard to escape.
Superior to the solid 2004 Jim Carrey-starring movie adaptation of the books, the long-form approach is much better-suited to the material, allowing everyone involved to dig in deep with their characters. Roll on season two, which premieres in March.
