Sometimes you get the feeling that the writers didn't quite know what to do with Dawn after they were finished with the Key storyline. Now that she's not the object of some awful Hell God to track down and steal, she's pretty much just a typical teenage girl. And that's exactly what this episode tries to come to terms with. There's a spell that they can use to track down potential Slayers, and for a brief shining moment they think that Dawn could be one of them. It would make sense, wouldn't it? She does have the Slayer's blood, after all. With their group of friends (a Slayer, witches, vampires), being normal has to feel pretty bad sometimes. This episode also has one of Xander's greatest moments, when he gets a chance to shine with a speech to Dawn about how special she is as a person, even if she isn't blessed with supernatural powers.
