Steven Moffat really messed with peoples' minds in Series 8's two-part finale. Opting to confront the whole issue of male Time Lords turning female by reintroducing the Master as pirouetting psychopath Michelle Gomez, he placed the Twelfth Doctor in a particularly moist form of danger - Cybermen emerged from the water before "Missy" got strapped to a Lecter-esque trolley. The action moved to the skies where a UNIT aircraft became the setting for one of the most surprising deaths in recent years. Affable assistant Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) reappeared from The Day of the Doctor and fans were pleased to see her back. Her interactions with Capaldi suggested he was going to whisk her away in the TARDIS before the closing credits rolled. Sadly for Oliver, though, that flight was destined to be her last. Tricked by the nefarious nemesis, Osgood wound up locked in an icy grip with a gun to the head before an attempt to talk her way out got silenced by a shocking disintegration. Evil Master. Evil Moff!
