20 Best Superman TV Episodes Of All Time

6. "Apokolips...Now!" - Superman: The Animated Series

Superman: The Animated Series spent a lot of time building up an epic, overarching storyline that directly adapted many things from Jack Kirby's Fourth World comics. Beginning earnestly in "Tools of the Trade", then picking up in "Father's Day", the storyline reached a major turning point in "Apokolips... Now!". This two-part epic sees Superman fending off an invasion, led by Darkseid and his forces from Apokolips.

Previous episodes of the show saw Superman largely dealing with localized threats, usually limited to the confines of Metropolis. This is the first episode in the series where not only is Metropolis being threatened, but the entire world.

Featuring a world-spanning, outrageously epic story and action sequences that dwarf some major feature films that Superman has appeared in, "Apokolips... Now!" is a truly magical adventure. Not to mention that Michael Ironside delivers a downright terrifying performance as Darkseid, easily one of his best.

This sense of scale and drama - it's something that the DCAU came to rely on even more throughout STAS and JLU. It all started here though.
