20 Best Superman TV Episodes Of All Time
5. "The House Of Luthor" - Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman
"The House of Luthor" really dives deep into the aspects that made the nineties Superman so fascinating.
Lois loves Superman, but only sees Clark as a friend. It's a fascinating dichotomy for stories, which pays off huge in this episode. Events from the previous episode, "Barbarans at the Planet", come into play here. Lois rejected Clark, who then rejected Lois in turn as Superman. This sent Lois into the arms of Lex. What a tangled web we weave.
In "The House of Luthor", the marriage between Lois and Lex takes center stage, while the good guys spend all their time trying to find the information they need to bring Luthor down. It's a lot of small, intricate stories coming together and it's fantastic writing. It also presents a lot of classic Superman elements that we've come to love, like seeing Luthor torturing the Man of Steel with Kryptonite.
Speaking of Kryptonite, it's quite cool that the element that hurts Superman is what comes back into play to doom Luthor. After weakening him with Kryptonite, Luthor cannot be saved by Superman due to him still being powerless.
It's a traditional Lex hates Superman and wants to destroy him tale mixed with a bit of intrigue and a wedding to boot. This would mark John Shea's final appearance as a series regular, but he made sure it was a good one.
