20 Most Exciting Fall TV Premieres

2. Transparent

What it's about: You know what's weird? We've spent this whole time talking about TV shows that actually air on television. Which might sound like an oxymoron, but with the advent of original programming on streaming services like Netflix, the definition of €œTV show€ is becoming a little more strict. Netflix's biggest competitor, Amazon Prime, have recently picked up a handful of series from their first pilot programme, due to be €œshown€ online this fall. Transparent's double-entendre title hints at the premise, with a close family dealing with the decision of Jeffrey Tambor's patriarch to transition into being a woman. The group of neurotic Californian kids react in their own particular ways to the news, whilst Tambor deals with the emotionally and physically stressful process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yawvtaFwfZs Why it looks good: As much as we like more traditional sitcoms like Marry me and Black-ish, we're fans of the more daring and heartfelt likes of Transparent. United States Of Tara and Six Feet Under producer Jill Soloway has history with that sort of thing, and we're excited to see Tambor is a more complex role than he had in Arrested Development. Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass, and Amy Landecker round out the cast fabulously, the trans issue looks to be handled sensitively, the jokes are smart, and the relationships are believable. It's also really funny, most importantly.
