20 Funniest Moments In British Comedy

6. Don't Tell Him, Pike - Dad's Army

The Show: Perhaps the biggest joke of all in Dad's Army was that, not only was it a real concept, but that the thought of having barely-mobilised pensioners and invalids dotted in garrisons across the country apparently stopped Hitler from committing to a ground offensive in the UK. Comprised of a painfully-stiff commanding officer and his band of confused and hapless "soldiers" as they bumble around the local village in an attempt to somehow influence the war.

The Setup: A squad of German soldiers has been captured by the local pier, and Captain Mainwaring and co must keep them in the village hall until they can be picked up by the army. The German commander, keen to ensure that any ill-treatment of his officers will be punished at a later date, decides to keep a record of anyone he deems to be offensive.
