16. Nippy - One Foot In The Grave

The Show: If there's one demographic that's never give a fair ride in comedy, it's pensioners. Either the butt of some "oh, look what gran's done now" sketch or relegated to background fodder in a scene about how care homes smell like carrot and wee.

However the BBC's One Foot In The Grave put them centre stage and showed that, despite the mundanity of their everyday adventures, the were was incredible warmth and humour to be found within. In the grumpy, set-in-his-ways Victor Meldrew - or rather Richard Wilson's portrayal of him - they also found of the most iconic British TV characters of the 90s.

The Setup: After being persuaded to look after his neighbour's dog for a few days, Victor Meldrew spends the weekend (and the entire episode) building a kennel and setting the house up for the arrival of "Nippy". Except there's a slight problem with the poor creature...
