20 Funniest Moments In British Comedy

14. Mastermind - The Two Ronnies

The Show: There's not much love left the double act, arguably the quintessential element of British comedy in the latter half of the 20th Century. Fry and Laurie, Smith and Jones, Morecambe and Wise, Reeves and Mortimer, and French and Saunders all left their mark, but perhaps none so much as the Two Ronnies. Their own show, first broadcast in 1971, ran for an astonishing 16 years and continually found new and inventive ways for the iconic comedians to riff off each other and make the audience laugh.

The Setup: Satirising Mastermind, a quiz-show that at the time was one of the BBC's flagship shows, our dynamic duo showcase their incredible talents for both writing and performing comedy. Flipping the formula of the original show on its head by having the contestant (portrayed peerlessly by Ronnie Corbett) only give answers the question prior to the one he's just been asked.
