20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Sherlock

11. The Show Is A Hit Abroad (And Has Some Strange Interpretations)

Like Doctor Who, Steven Moffat's other BBC show, Sherlock has been a success in more than just UK. It's a hit the world over, with some interesting reactions coming from Asia. When visiting China, PM David Cameron was asked to get the crew making the episodes faster (because that's how things work). It's endearing, but made utterly ridiculous when you realise that the show is banned in China; all 69 million people in the country who've watched will have done so illegally. In South Korea, boy band SHINee used the show as inspiration for their comeback song Sherlock, which boasts a music video that relies heavily on Sherlock iconography. Yes, there's a crazy South Korean song with an even crazier music video, what a shock. Strangest of all has to be the manga adaptation, which takes "BBC's greatly popular foreign drama" and gives it a more suitably Japanese make-over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kyG5tTZ1iE#t=88
