You know Doctor Who is here to stay when it gets axed by the BBC and still lives to tell the tale! The show was controversially cancelled during Sylvester McCoy's turbulent tenure as the titular Time Lord back in 1989 but it went out on a high with what is still regarded as one of the most imaginative serials in Doctor Who history. The aptly-titled Survival ended with a poignant shot of the Seventh Doctor and his companion, Ace, walking off into the sunset with the promise of adventures anew, albeit adventures viewers would never actually get to see for themselves. Or so they thought at the time, anyway.
