20 Things You Didn't Know About Gilmore Girls
15. The Show Has A Habit Of Actors Playing Two Different Characters
Whether intentional or not, the show has a recurring habit of an actor playing two different characters.
Alex Borstein, voice of Lois Griffin in Family Guy, was the actress for Drella the rude harp player in season one as well as Miss Celine, the eccentric stylist of Emily Gilmore. She was meant to play long-time role Sookie St James but had to drop out due to her commitments for Mad TV. Ironically, Jackson Douglas, who plays Sookie’s on screen partner, was the real-life husband of Borstein until 2017. She also leant her voice to many unseen characters, such as the angry woman on the answering machine.
She’s not the only one. Marion Ross portrayed both Richard’s mother and cousin Marilyn, Aris Alvarado played Caesar and a Chilton student, and Sherilyn Fenn was both April’s mother and Jess’ father’s girlfriend (this particular instance is a mild plot hole in the narrative which the writers are trying to forget). Even Sean Gunn played Mick in the second ever episode before fully embracing the towns token weirdo Kirk.
