20 Things You Didn't Know About Scrubs

7. J.D's Emmy Shout-Out

Scrubs JD Turk Elliot
NBC

During its nine season run on NBC (and later ABC), Scrubs became a major ratings success story, but only ever won two Emmy Awards. Zach Braff was nominated for three Golden Globes for his lead performance as J.D, and for one Emmy, but missed out on getting a gong every award season.

In the first episode of season eight, J.D says that he never wins any awards for his work as a doctor, which is really annoying since Dr Shalhoub wins "for everything." This is a reference to actor Tony Shalhoub, who beat Braff to his Emmy win to 2005.

It's pretty funny stuff looking back, but over time has actually become quite disappointing, since Scrubs never won any major award for writing or directing and Braff constantly missed out on winning an acting trophy.
