20 Things You Totally Missed In The Walking Dead
15. Dale's Speech Pops Up In Season Five
In the show's fourth-ever episode, the Atlanta survivors sit around a camp fire after Rick is finally reunited with his family.
There, the group question Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) about why he is still wearing a watch despite the world coming to an end. Quoting William Faulkner, he gives a quick little story about a man who gave his son a watch and why time is so important.
The quote ends with the line: "...I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you may forget it for a moment...and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it."
In the second half of season five, the last few episodes take their name from the speech - starting with Remember and moving through Forget, Spend, Try and Conquer.
There's many theories about the significance of this, with the most common one being centred around the idea that the group, after all they've been through, have finally made a home for themselves and accepted their place in the world.
