20 TV Show Finales That Are Totally Flawless

8. Meanwhile - Futurama

Futurama's final stretch was characterised by cancellations and renewals, feature-length movies which no one really liked, and a couple of seasons that were far removed from the quality of the show's formative years.

But it wasn't all bad, and the final finale - after season four's The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings and the onslaught of movies - serves as a perfect reminder of just how great the series once was, and how much the dysfunctional characters at its core had actually grown.

The episode starts off in typically zany Futurama fashion, with Fry (Billy West) caught in a time-loop which ends in his death, and soon descends into a beautiful farewell for the series as he and Leela (Katey Sagal) end up eternally pausing time and living their lives out together happy and undisturbed.

It's wacky good fun, as the show always was, but also incredibly bittersweet, as the pair are eventually saved from timelessness by the Professor (West) and decide to live their lives over one last time. It doesn't get more wholesome than that.
