8. The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - Humans Travelling To The Stars

It's not just the Doctor's companions that have been fortunate to leave Earth and visit the stars; so has Arthur Dent, a man who shares a connection with the Doctor. The Tenth Doctor claimed to have met Arthur Dent on his travels while the Seventh Doctor asked the question "Who was it said Earthmen never invite their ancestors round to dinner?". The answer of course was the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy itself. Just how the events of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy played into the bigger Doctor Who universe, we€™ll never know. Perhaps the destruction of Earth by the Vogons was just another alternate reality like those faced in Inferno and Rise Of The Cybermen? Perhaps humanity was saved by the Doctor and the course of history altered? Douglas Adams wrote for Doctor Who as well as The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy so there was always going to be some influences, but not as much as the next entry...
