24 Iconic Moments That Have Defined 24 So Far

23. Nina Is The Mole (Season 1, Episode 23)

The writers of 24 pulled a brilliant one-two punch with their depiction of Jack's closest ally, Nina Myers. When it transpires that there's a mole inside the Counter Terrorism Unit, she's one of the main suspects to come under scrutiny: the answer is in plain sight, but she is eventually cleared after it appears that the mole they uncover, Jamey Farrell, is the only one in the office. Nina appears to be totally on the level until the final moments of the 23rd episode when she calls terrorist Andre Drazen to inform him that David Palmer had survived the second assassination attempt, making it clear that she is, in fact a mole. The fallout of this occurs in episode 24, when Nina attempts to make a sloppy exit from CTU, only to be caught by Jack and taken into a custody. But that's not the end of it: Jack then makes one of the most horrifying discoveries in the history of the show...

22. Nina Kills Teri (Season 1, Episode 24)

After Nina is taken away, Jack returns inside CTU where we expect that he will find Teri bound, as this was the state we last saw Nina leave her in. However, Jack enters and...Teri has been shot in the stomach, and has subsequently bled to death. To make it even more of a kick in the nuts, Jack had only found out earlier that Teri was pregnant with their child, a revelation which would have huge consequences for the remainder of the show: Jack's feud with Nina arguably becomes the most fascinating aspect of the next two seasons, and Teri's death is a frequent topic of discussion even in later seasons. Teri's death also introduced another famous element of 24 lore: the silent clock. When important, beloved characters die or something deeply emotional happens, the next clock, be it for a commercial or at the end of the episode, will be silent to allow viewers to quietly take in what they've just seen.
