9. Richard Burgi, Who Played Kevin In Season 1, Was The Original Choice For Jack Bauer

You might not remember the name Richard Burgi, but if you're a big fan of the show, you probably remember the season one character Kevin Carroll, who impersonated Alan York and kidnapped Teri Bauer for Ira Gaines. Believe it or not, Burgi, who later graduated onto a meaty role in Desperate Housewives, was Fox's original choice for Jack Bauer, likely following his work on late-90s action series The Sentinel. Burgi claims 24's co-creator Joel Surnow formally offered the part to him, but because Fox wanted a name actor as the lead, it ultimately went to Sutherland instead. As a consolation prize, Burgi was offered a memorable supporting part which saw him appear in 11 episodes of the first season.
