25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2020
11. Helstrom
Bit of a weird one, this. With Marvel's family-oriented shows like Runaways, Cloak & Dagger and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. being sacked off and Marvel’s TV arm closing down, Helstrom may be left as the only non-Disney+ Marvel show out there. The implication is that Helstrom was too far into development to cancel once the decision was made to consolidate the MCU under Kevin Feige.
However, speculation is also rampant as to how much of a departure Helstrom is from the source material. Here, Daimon Helstrom is an ethics professor while his sister Ana Helstrom runs an auction house - both siblings secretly fight bad guys in their spare time, inspired to do so because their father was a notorious serial killer.
Thing is, in the comics Daimon Hellstrom is a part-demon sorcerer with a chip on his shoulder, and the literal son of Satan. His sister Satana (yeah, we see what you did there) is the same only worse, having grown up in Hell in Daddy's care.
Of course, given Marvel TV's love of stretching out origin stories over whole seasons, there's a strong chance that Helstrom will showcase the pair of them finding that a) their 'serial killer dad' is worse than they thought by a factor of WHOA WHAT THE HELL, and b) they're both antichrists.
Will Helstrom mark a successful test run for that new Marvel horror vibe, or will it go the route of Inhumans and disappear without a trace? Let's see.
