25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2020
12. Superman & Lois
In the absence of Arrow, and with venerable monster hunting show Supernatural also about to start pushing up daisies, The CW have been casting around for replacements.
Superman & Lois is a surprising addition to the network's DC line-up, given that Warner Bros have historically been so reluctant to let the Arrowverse play with DC's holy trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. We're still no nearer to getting the latter on TV, but Batwoman's presence on the schedules means it's probably only a matter of time for the Dark Knight on The CW.
But a whole TV show dedicated to Superman and Lois Lane? That was a pipe dream, until Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsy Tulloch began making Arrowverse appearances. Hoechlin's Superman first appeared way back in the first episode of Supergirl's second season, but we wouldn't see Tulloch's Lois Lane until last year's Elseworlds crossover - and it's no exaggeration to say that the chemistry between the two is off the scale.
Perennially underrated as an actor because of his looks, Hoechlin makes a great Superman, but an even better Clark Kent - but Tulloch is by far the best Lois Lane since Margot Kidder. With the introduction of their son Jonathan - fated to become Superboy - this show could become the standout in the post-Crisis Arrowverse. The CW are certainly taking it seriously, having tapped Todd Helbing, showrunner from The Flash, to produce and write the pilot.
