25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2020
3. Star Trek: Picard
Probably one of the most anticipated shows of the last few years, let alone next year, Patrick Stewart’s return to Star Trek after seventeen years is a really, really big deal in Trek circles, and probably still a fairly big deal just as a television event in and of itself.
Details about the actual plot of the show are still sketchy. It would appear to be set around twenty years after we last saw Picard on screen. It would appear that Data, last seen sacrificing his android life at the end of Star Trek: Nemesis, is returning; it would appear that the Borg may be involved, with roles for both Jeri Ryan’s Seven Of Nine and Jonathan Del Arco’s Hugh, and that there are ramifications from the destruction of Romulus in the events of 2009’s Star Trek reboot.
However, this is really about one man and his return to the character and the franchise that made him a household name. Stewart’s return came with multiple conditions, to which showrunner Alex Kurtzmann was very happy to acquiesce: a totally new, totally fresh take on Trek and Picard, which wouldn’t represent a bog standard sequel to The Next Generation.
It’ll be fascinating to see what they’ve come up with.
