25 WORST Episodes Of Star Trek EVER

16. Move Along Home - DSN

Riker Star Trek The Next Generation
CBS

Deep Space Nine's reputation as the darkest of Trek (pre-Discovery) was well earned once it hit its stride and the writing was second to none as it explored the effects of the war on the main characters. The Gamma Quadrant and the Wormhole were wonderful plot devices to expand the scope of the show. Having the main action of the plot on the station also allowed the exploration of consequences from week to week, allowing the first serial story ideas to take place.

Move Along Home was an early first season episode and is an example of the show not understanding what it would become. It is both a comedy and a thriller, attempting to trick the audience into thinking the cast were in peril and that only Quark could save them. The visiting aliens are insufferable and the fact that Odo doesn't simply interrogate them to the point they capitulate doesn't really ring true to his character.

There is very little to like here. Bashir is truly annoying while stuck in the game. Kira hadn't yet settled into the role and is just brash. Sisko comes across as foolish. It was a giant step down from some of the better episodes in the season and it is another example that not every episode should be counted into a rewatch of the franchise as a whole.
