28 Doctor Who Actors Who Died In 2022
16. Lynda Baron
Lynda Baron, born in March 1939 as Lilian Ridgway, appeared in Doctor Who long before her face was ever actually seen. She recorded the original song The Ballad Of The Last Chance Saloon for the First Doctor serial The Gunfighters. That serial was notable for being the final multi-part story to have individual episode names, as well as being one of the last historical stories of the early years.
She would appear on-screen for the first time in the Fifth Doctor serial Enlightenment, wherein she played Captain Wrack. She was an Eternal, in league with the Black Guardian, who was last seen floating in space, having been thrown overboard by Turlough and the Doctor. Baron would then appear in Closing Time, an Eleventh Doctor episode, as Val.
Her best known role is that of Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in the comedy series Open All Hours, though she appeared in dozens of other productions, including several of the most popular soap operas in Britain.
Baron passed away on March 5th. She was 82 years old.
