30 Greatest Doctor Who Episodes Of The Revived Series

13. The Girl In The Fireplace

Modern Doctor Who - and in particular Steven Moffat's episodes - have used timey wimey shenanigans to confuse us, thrill us and just all round entertain us but Series 2's The Girl in the Fireplace uses it to make us cry. Go on, you can admit it. Thanks to the interference of the Clockwork Droids, the Doctor pops up through Reinette's timeline all through her life and eventually seems to actually fall in love with her (yeah, sorry about that Rose!), going to the extent of trapping himself in one time in order to save her. Although it also has some typically spooky Moffat moments of horror, The Girl in the Fireplace is remembered as one of New Who's best love stories to date, even if it does take place on the slow path.
