FX are doing the right thing and bringing Billy Crystal back to screens, playing a superstar veteran comedian (which shouldn't be too hard) who ends up working with a young, edgier up-and-comer - Josh Gad - in a behind the scenes look at a late-night comedy show. The Selling Point: Billy Crystal really cannot be on TV enough. The Concerns: His suspiciously black hair is horribly distracting.
27. The Knick (August 2014)
A historical medical drama might not be all that enticing, but we've seen a precedent set by the likes of Call The Midwife, and the trio of Steven Soderbergh, Cinemax and Clive Owen should command enough interest to make this an intriguing prospect. The show will follow the life of Dr. John W. Thackery (Owen) and the staff at New York's Knickerbocker Hospital in the early part of the twentieth century. If Soderbergh can recapture his usual flair, and get as good a performance out of Owen as his did Michael Douglas and Matt Damon last year, then we're looking at a winner. The Selling Point: Soderbergh making TV is the new Soderbergh making films. The Concerns: Medical drama saturation might be a concern, but it's only a very small one.
