Extant is a hugely impressive looking, high-production sci-fi from executive producer Steven Spielberg, who knows a thing or two about spectacle, starring Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo space mission inexplicably pregnant after a mysterious encounter in space. Add to that an AI style artificial life programme, a shady cover up and lots of intrigue, and you've got what looks to be one of the most interesting shows coming this year. The Selling Point: It's a high-concept Spielberg sci-fi, with some very familiar bones and a great looking story. The Concerns: Halle Berry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmB-BoY1j0#t=125
19. Dominion (June 2014)
2010's Legion is hardly a smart starting point for any TV show, but the high-concept supernatural apocalyptic actioner was based on a good idea about archangel Michael falling to Earth to side with the humans in a war with his own kind. The show takes that story up 25 years after the end of the film, with newly built survivor cities holding out against attacks by Michael's brother Gabriel. The Selling Point: The concept is much better than the delivery in Legion was, and everyone loves all out holy war. The Concerns: Legion made some money, but it was critically panned, and the show is being overseen by the same director.
