4 Ups & 4 Downs For Star Trek: Section 31

Star Trek certainly isn't wanting for Oscar winners. Several, the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Louise Fletcher, and Joel Grey have graced its past. Another, Holly Hunter, is due to brighten its future. In its present, Star Trek: Section 31's lead has her own statuette. Then, calling in for a surprise cameo as 'Control' was Michelle Yeoh's Academy Award-winning co-star from Everything Everywhere All at Once — Jamie Lee Curtis.

Curtis certainly speaks very highly of Yeoh. Back in February 2023, she told Variety that Yeoh was "the reason" for her Oscar nomination, "the reason" she accepted the role in Everything Everywhere… without needing to read the script. It is perhaps not surprising at all, therefore, that Curtis would want to appear in her friend's project. She did look like she was having a lot of fun! Even if they weren't in the same room, the delight on Yeoh's face shone through the mask of Georgiou.

The only oddity was 'Control' in the first place. We thought that particular part of Section 31 was thoroughly done and dusted. The Discovery did skip ahead several centuries for a reason! Definitely not the same AI system, or the galaxy would have known about it by now, Curtis' version was more like the Controller. The Discovery incident was probably classified and buried even to them!
