9. Meta-Crisis Doctor
That handy spare hand from a while ago turned out to be quite handy indeed, as it prevented the Tenth Doctor from leaving before he was darned well ready to go. After he was shot down by a Dalek, regeneration was imminent. During the process of regeneration, he was somehow able to channel the regeneration into his hand, and being a "matching bio-receptacle" (in other words, the hand had the same DNA as him), he was able to keep the same exact form and personality after the regeneration. For a while, many fans didn't believe this counted as a regeneration, but it was confirmed by Steven Moffat that indeed, the Tenth Doctor had used up two regenerations. In the end, though, it gave Rose Tyler the happy ending she deserved as she was able to spend the rest of her life with a human version of the Tenth Doctor (which was created by residual energy from the regeneration process, mixed with exposure to Donna Noble). It's a long story.
