3. Gollum

Let's face it, Game Of Thrones has a pretty major cast of characters in its arsenal, and few of the Lord of The Rings lot could claim to be as great, but there's one who could have a reasonable claim. As hard as that might be to believe, there's a schizophrenic ghoul who was once a happy Hobbit that might have a thing or three to say here. Where to start with the ghastly charismatic Gollum? A good starting point is complimenting Andy Serkis's genial motion-capture performance that was probably
this close to becoming the fist of its kind to nab an Oscar nom. If you think it was easy, the making-ofs will make you think again. Then there's the character of Gollum himself, the closest Lord of the Rings comes to grey matter with its petri dishes; how can one creature be so endearing, psychotic, fascinating, revolting and loveable at the same time? You know he's leading Frodo to his doom and yet you still love him when he says "crumbs on his jacketses!" Game of Thrones comes up empty handed here. Even if they try to pit Tyrion against Gollum, they could only win in height and that's if Gollum remains in his hunched position. The three-dimensionality of Gollum, born Smeagol the Hobbit, is great for discussion and Serkis's brilliant performance is the perfect enhancement to what Tolkien created.
