3. The Marriage Between The Long-Lasting Couple

In HIMYM, ladies-man Barney performs the wedding of his two great friends Lily and Marshall, who have long been in a relationship. During the wedding, the groom has a meltdown, shaving half of his hair, but the wedding goes ahead in the end and the pair get married. As it's sitcom land, it's par for course that a weddings will never go well there's just far too much entertainment value in seeing it go wrong. However, once again, Friends have done it first. The Friends wedding is also performed by the sitcom's womaniser - Joey. Chandler and Monica the pair enjoying a long relationship together are the ones getting married. Also Chandler, the groom, has a breakdown which sees him running away - only to eventually return later on. Again this is something the HIMYM team would have known prior to writing, or copying and pasting, the script for the episode, but why did they opt for the similar character to have the melt down. Why not have a distraction coming from the bride perhaps running away on the wedding day? After the couple get married, the writers have lost potential relationship stories they could concoct down the line, which will hamper them as clearly they're bereft of original ideas. Nobody knows why they chose to have a friend perform the wedding, and why the friend had to be the ladies man, rather than the man who knows the pair for the longest Ted. Clearly there's no logic in the writers' heads, but with the amount of similarities the two sitcoms have already shown to have it comes as no surprise that the writers are continuing with the theme of copying Friends.
