2. Robin Is Clearly An Adapted Version Of Rachel

The most staggering similarity that should be a crime to have put out on the screen - Robin and Rachel. Both start with the same letter, both are viewed as the girl who attracts a lot of male attention, and both are the subject of 'will they, wont they?' long-running storylines. HYMIM character Robin is portrayed as a confident, work-orientated woman who gets involved in a love triangle between two of her best friends - Barney and Ted, one of which she marries. After threatening to quit working for a TV networks she considers a joke, Robin finally gets her break with a respectable company. As a result, she becomes a big star in media which sees her working abroad in another country. Having a number of failed relationships while being on and off with Ted has meant the audience can see vulnerability in her despite maintaining a high level of professionalism in her work life. She eventually marries one of the main cast. Rachel from Friends is also a confident and very work-orientated woman, after being cut off from her rich father. She gets involved in a love triangle between Ross and Joey two best friends, one of which she marries. She almost quits working for a clothes department store, but finally gets her big break with Ralph Lauren, and the job eventually takes her to Paris. Rachel has left a guy at the altar, and has struggled in her personal life to find a long-lasting relationship in between flings with Ross. She also eventually marries one of the main cast for the second time. Why on earth the writers felt compelled to have Robin date Barney nobody will ever know, but to continue following the same eventual path as Friends will always mean people will draw comparisons about the two sitcoms that will put a dampener on any awards HIMYM win - if it hasn't already.
