5 Things A Sixth Season Of The Wire Could've Focused On

2. Immigration

Series' creator David Simon has gone on the record to state that if a sixth season of the show had been made, it would've focused on illegal immigration, specifically the arrival of undocumented workers in Baltimore. Presumably, some of these would try and function as law-abiding citizens and either get caught up in the world of bureaucracy or pay for their honesty, whilst others would formulate their own criminal enterprises and be drawn into conflict with the city's already-established kingpins.

There are many roads that such a storyline could've gone down - the police could've been tasked with tracking down the illegals and potentially becoming sympathetic to their plight, the show's journalists could've become involved in an investigatory capacity, whilst the establishment of a new criminal element to clash with the old could've led to some brutal gang conflicts in an already tumultuous environment. This is something that the series' assorted political characters would've inevitably been drawn into as they are made to answer for the violence on their city's streets.

Corrupt corporations profiting on undocumented labour could've been another focus, as could human traffickers such as The Greek, whose enigmatic organisation could've been looked at in more detail.
