5 Times Arrowverse Threw Shade At Superman

3. Explicitly Identified As Not "My Favorite Kryptonian"

It is natural that the Arrowverse characters would be closer to Kara given their history with her, but Arrowverse was still unusually chill toward her cousin. The problem is that the network knows that Superman meeting Barry & Oliver is something they would have to do to satisfy fans expectations before they could successfully retire Clark for once and all. So they did the meeting, but it was all carefully written to be sure not to start any new friendships that fans would want more of.

The Arrowverse characters outside of Kara barely interacted with Superman. The heroes of Earth 1 do not have the built-in familiarity with him, but it still feels very odd the characters didn't seem at all impressed. How was it that Cisco wasn't geeked out by the preeminent hero of DC Comics? Weirdest of all for the CW, which usually loves to hint at fan's hopes for the future, was that there wasn't a single allusion to the Justice League when this was as close as it gets.

To make it explicitly clear who we the viewers should like, Cisco spells it out for us when he refers to Supergirl as his favorite Kryptonian. He doubles down on it by saying "Yeah, that's right. I have a favorite". Brainiac 5 echoes this sentiment for a third time when he confirms that Cisco chose well. Supergirl is then given the line, to hammer it home a fourth time for anyone not listening, "Peace out from your favorite Kryptonian" as she leaves. Notice even how the shot is arranged to put him in the background where he appears diminutive, while she is front and center.
