5 UK TV Shows Netflix Should Make Next
3. Nostalgia Porn
Right now, children of the 1980s and 90s seem to have an insatiable appetite for nostalgia. I can’t be the only one whose spent countless Friday nights sitting in my pants watching old episodes of 90s game show Fort Boyard. I sincerely hope Netflix dedicates itself to making high-quality intellectual British programming, but at the same time I can’t lie - I would love to see some vintage guilty-pleasure TV in the form of the campy adventure game shows my generation grew up with.
If Netflix were to go down this route, they’re spoilt for choice for potential shows to revive. There’s the aforementioned Fort Boyard, the virtual-reality cult-favourite Knightmare or another personal favourite of mine, Jungle Run. These are shows that only require the viewer to shut off their brain and enjoy. Not to mention - they’re something the entire family can enjoy; which let’s face it, is something lacking in a lot of Netflix’s original content.
Channel 4 recently rebooted that other 1990s adventure series The Crystal Maze for a one-off special to positive reaction, although host of the special Stephen Merchant has since confirmed there’s no plans for a full series. The ball’s in your court, Netflix.
