6 Reasons Why Warner Bros. Cancelling DC Universe Would Be A HUGE Mistake
1. Marvel Vs DC
The rivalry between Marvel and DC may only exist in the conflict-hungry minds of comic book fans, but the cliched comparison does provide useful context as a measurement of success.
If we look at DC's TV track record, they've been making consistently decent superhero TV since Arrow began, which spawned its own mini-universe. Incredible to think this will culminate in a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover later this year, based on one of the most famous comic book events in history.
Compare that to Marvel's offerings, with Agents of Shield continuing to limp on towards its final reward, and an admittedly good quartet of Netflix series which is now firmly in the rear-view, with no plans of revival. Marvel doing anything like their version of a Crisis event on television (Secret Wars perhaps?) is unthinkable at this moment.
But what about Disney+? The exciting new haven for original online content based on Marvel Studios properties? Most of the superhero content announced so far is just an extension of the movies, and therefore trading off the popularity of established MCU fan-favourites, such as Loki, Vision & Scarlet Witch, and Falcon & Winter Soldier. Hardly the sort of risky move that Marvel has been known to take when it comes to their movies.
And now here comes DC throwing original series at us left right and centre, starring the weirdest and least filmable characters they have, like Swampy, or the Doom Patrol gang. These were real risks, that have somehow paid off.
