6 Things New To Netflix This Week (Feb 15)

2. Dr Strangelove

As the Oscars buzz goes from a mild hum to a loud whirr, Netflix are giving you chance to escape from the noise with Stanley Kubrick's political satire, Dr. Strangelove. The 1964 classic was nominated for four Academy Awards back in the day - Best Director, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor in a Leading Role, but lost all of them, including three times to the musical slush piece known as Mr Fair Lady. When you consider Sellers was overlooked in favour of Rex Harrison, despite playing three characters in the film, you have to wonder what the Academy Awards panel were smoking that year. Given the state of relations between the world's biggest superpowers, there's probably never been a more ironic time to watch Dr. Strangelove as it explodes onto Netflix from February 17th.
