7 Fortunate Accidents That Ended Up Saving Doctor Who

3. The Introduction Of Doctor Lite Episodes

Having a Christmas Special forced the production team to have one cheap episode without the main cast. While the festive escapades are mostly so awful it would be preferable to shove turkey giblets up your nose, the Doctor Lite episodes are great experiments which almost make them worth it.

Admittedly Love & Monsters is an acquired taste (acquire it) but Blink and Turn Left are acclaimed for being two of the best episodes of the David Tennant era.

Blink secured Moffat as showrunner (debate how fortunate that was for another day!) and Turn Left is a great 'What If?' story which took full advantage of not having the Doctor in an episode.

They brilliantly embody the “Ah, sod it, let’s do it!" nature the show has when it’s at its very best.
