2. Namedropping The Time Lords In The Two Doctors & Five Doctors
The Time Lords were introduced in The War Games, the Second Doctor’s last adventure. As a result, there’s no way Jamie could refer to them because he wouldn’t know who they were.
As a result, the theory goes that the Doctor spent thousands of years (since the Third Doctor said he was that old) doing dirty work for them. But what’s so good is that it was accepted into canon and turned into a novel.
It worked incredibly well for what was essentially a flub by the writer, who wasn’t quite sure who he was supposed to be writing for. As it turns out, Robert Holmes was so brilliant that he even had a Midas touch when he was bad.
