7 TV Finales That Pissed Off The Fans

5. Dexter: Dex Becomes A Lumberjack

The Sopranos Ending
Showtime

Throughout Dexter's eight-season run, fans debated whether he should get away with his crimes, or end up on the wrong end of a lethal injection for them. The show was all about moral ambiguity, so there was no right or wrong here, but the ending should have at least attempted to answer this question.

After throwing viewers a depressing curveball by killing off poor innocent Deb unexpectedly, the show ends with Dex locked up in a metaphorical prison. Becoming a lonely lumberjack was his only punishment for mass murder.

Basically, the writers bottled it at the last minute and sat on the fence regarding his ultimate fate. Likely Dexter will continue to kill since he can't help himself and he believed in the righteousness of his actions until the end, but how that works out for him without a forensics lab on his side nobody will ever know.

Some might argue that losing everything you love is the worst punishment of all, but the fans wanted the show's endgame to explore what happens when he's finally caught and made to answer for his many crimes in a more traditional sense.

Surely there will be a temptation to revive Dexter down the line, if only so he can go out on a more appropriate note than this.
