7 Ups & 5 Downs From The Arrowverse In 2019
4. Giving The Fans What They Always Wanted
It may have taken Arrow eight years to get the memo that fans had been repeatedly sending them but in the end, they finally gave fans the Green Arrow and Black Canary team-up they had wanted to see all along. With the concluding half of the seventh season finally seeing Earth-2 Laurel Lance transition into Black Canary, the eighth season saw her team up with her comic book love interest on a number of occasions.
When Oliver couldn't be in two places at once, Laurel was there to save Tatsu; when he needed to be sure that someone would protect Mia, he relied on Laurel to do just that; when choosing which of his teammates to bring to Russia with him, he chose Laurel; when he found himself trapped in a time-loop, he was there with Laurel; and finally, when he needed to hear some home truths on Lian Yu, he heard them from Laurel.
Make no mistake about it, Arrow has been very clear in its attempts to end the show how it begun: With Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy at the forefront. Though the latter is playing a different version of the same character, we have still been gifted with more Green Arrow and Black Canary adventures than ever before - and that is a long overdue bonus in a truly great season.
