7 Ways AMC Should End The Walking Dead
2. Make Negan The Main Character
Of course, while the show could bow out with Rick realising he's not fit for the world he helped build could be interesting, the alleged timeline of Andrew Lincoln's departure and AMC's plans for the future realistically means there's going to be a new main character, and while the studio is apparently paying big bucks for Norman Reedus to replace Lincoln, the reality is Daryl isn't complex enough to carry an entire show.
In fact, there are few characters left strong enough to replace Rick at all (especially if both Lauren Cohan and Danai Gurira also leave), but the show could find a new protagonist in Negan.
Though he's a divisive character, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is one of the best actors on the show, and season 8 made great strides in making the brain-pulverising villain far more sympathetic - even when compared to his comic-book counterpart. Hell, at times he seemed more compassionate than Rick, showing genuine remorse for Carl while the supposed "hero" went on a murderous rampage.
Negan being inspired by the man who swore to kill him during their first meeting could make for a subversive final arc, and close out the show by showing just how powerful Rick's legacy was.
