8 Amazing Red Dwarf Details You Never Noticed

2. Spot The Cameo

As mentioned in the Backwards entry, cameos are nothing new in Red Dwarf.

Even from the earliest episodes, many a staple of British (and occasional overseas) TV, stage and music has made an appearance in the sci-fi sitcom over the years.

Did you notice a heavily made up Ainsley Harriott as a GELF? Chances are you wouldn't straight away. Perhaps you didn't know that Queeg's actor, Charles Augins, choreographed Red Dwarf's only single, "Tongue Tied"?

Timothy Spall gets fondly remembered for calling Rimmer a "twonk", but who remembers Ruby Wax as the brilliantly named Blaze Falconburger from Timeslides?

Craig Charles may have ties to Coronation Street, but it's Eastenders that has the most cameo'd cast in here: Jake Wood, Anita Dobson, even Claire Grogan (who joined Eastenders later).

Even Brian Cox (the veteran actor, not the former D:Ream member) makes a great appearance as the VR game king, with Sarah Alexander as his queen.

No, Red Dwarf has never been short of acting alumni over its years, as half the fun is in spotting them and then spending ages trying to place where they're from.

Or is it just me that does that...?
