8 Bad Pilots Of Good TV Shows

5. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Office Pilot
ABC

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first season is tedious, and its pilot is just about the worst offender. The characters don't feel like themselves yet, with each non-Coulson lead coming across less like a person and more like a caricature.

Clark Gregg is great as always as Phil Coulson, but seeing him again negates his death in The Avengers, one of the most powerful moments in the film. Though they do tease some sort of mystery as to how he returns, it's mostly hand waved aside, and it doesn't get enough attention to feel like a real mystery.

However, once Captain America: The Winter Soldier turns the show on its head, the quality skyrockets faster than a Quinjet. Each character becomes more fleshed out, the plot twists are unpredictable in the best way possible, and the actors turn it up to 11, especially Iain De Caestecker as Fitz.

It's hard to believe that the Pilot and "Turn, Turn, Turn" are part of the same series, let alone released just a few months apart.
