8 Best Veronica Mars Episodes

8. Pilot (Air Date: September 22nd 2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veHaTGzhySM Just as it might be said that there wouldn't be a Veronica Mars film were it not for the Veronica Mars series, there would, equally, not be a Veronica Mars series were it not for its quirky, charismatic pilot episode, which introduced us to its quirky, charismatic protagonist of the same name. The Pilot episode of Veronica Mars plunged you in at the deep-end. I've attached the opening scene above. From there we were transported into the polarising society of the fictional California district of Neptune and its archetypal haven Neptune High. Moments after we see Veronica staking out a cheating husband, whilst working for her father: ex-sheriff and private investigator Keith Mars, we see Veronica walking into high school the previous day alike any other normal teenage girl. That is before she comes face-to-face with a stricken new kid, naked and strapped up to a pole, surrounded by a gaggle of students who couldn't seem to give a damn. The lad- Wallace- would go on to become Veronica's best friend. Within the walls of Neptune High existed the stark division of class, well beyond letters on classroom doors. We're quickly exposed to a harsh reality of favouritism for the "09ers"- i.e. the rich kids- compared to the oppression that befalls those who aren't. Money talks, folks. As for Veronica, a former 09er by default, she's now placed firmly in the middle of both and wanted by neither. Coupled with the harrowing introduction to the first season's overall plot arc- that is to say, Veronica's investigation into the death of her friend, Lilly Kane, an event that occurred prior to the events of the present day and what you have is a pilot episode that ticks all the boxes.
