8 DC Comics Characters The Arrowverse Has Saved
1. Supergirl
Supergirl differs from the rest of the characters we've discussed as she was a recognisable name even before the TV show aired. Still, the character's popularity has soared since she landed her own series and that is thanks to Supergirl's brand new take on the character which has made her a true feminist hero.
Kara Zor-El has made a big impact in the comics, of course - but it has to be said that her most famous moment is her death, during Crisis on Infinite Earths. Usually, Kara was presented as not much more than a sidekick for Superman and was unfortunately probably more known for her revealing outfits than her own heroism. Even the character's previous on-screen appearances hadn't been great. Laura Vandervoort's version was underused on Smallville and Helen Slater's 1984 solo movie is generally seen as one of the weakest DC movies ever.
But this has all changed thanks to the TV show. Supergirl has proven to be a big success, mainly thanks to Melissa Benoist's portrayal of Kara Danvers. By giving Kara her own city to protect and (mostly) removing her cousin from her life, it has allowed the character to stand on her own two feet and become her own hero. In fact, the season two finale revealed - a bit controversially - that Kara is stronger than Superman and that even the Man of Steel sees her as the greatest champion of the Earth.
