8 Dead Game Of Thrones Characters You Forgot Existed (And Why They're Important)
2. Jojen Reed
Life And Death:
Jojen Reed was the eldest son of Howland Reed and the heir to Greywater Watch. House Reed have always been loyal Stark vassals - it was Howland Reed that stabbed Arthur Dayne through the back of the neck after he disarmed Ned during their rescue of Lyanna Stark - and Jojen's purpose was to aid Brandon Stark in his search for the Three-Eyed Raven.
After convincing Bran to head north, Jojen and the group reach the tree from Bran’s vision only to be ambushed by wights. Jojen is dragged beneath the snow, and while Meera manages to pull him back to the surface, she can only watch as he is stabbed repeatedly by a wight. She cuts his throat in a mercy kill and gets out of the way before the Children of the Forest destroy his body to prevent it from reanimating.
Why He Was Important:
With greensight added to their arsenal, the show’s creators were suddenly able to employ convenient flashbacks and telling glimpses into the future. Without Jojen, Bran would not have reached the Three-Eyed Raven, who is now beginning to show him – and us, the viewers – the events of the Tower of Joy as they really happened.
Jojen was not just the beginning of our window into Robert's Rebellion, however. The young crannogman played an essential part in the development of Bran as a character, teaching him what it was to be a warg and how to use his power on humans. Will Jojen's advice directly affect the future of the Seven Kingdoms? If Bran has anything to do with it, it most certainly will.
