8 Fan-Service TV Episodes Everyone Hated

1. Game Of Thrones - The Last Of The Starks

Game Of Thrones Brienne Crying The Last of the Starks

It’s not even controversial to say that the final season of Game of Thrones sucked, the only controversial bit would be to pick out the scene that killed it because god knows there are so many contenders.

If we’re going by Rotten Tomatoes ratings, The Last of the Starks isn’t the worst episode of the final season (that would be The Iron Throne with a tasty 48%). However this episode did contain one horribly failed bit of fanservice that needs to be acknowledged.

For as long as Brienne and Jaime have been in each other's presence, there have been shippers. Much to the chargrain of the Brienne/Tormund bunch, The Last of the Starks finally saw Brienne and Jaime seal the deal and do the deed. Ok, that’s not too bad right? They’ve certainly got chemistry and it has been hinted at and led up to for a while.

Flash forward just a bit later in the episode, however, and we see Brienne’s entire character get thrown out the window (metaphorically, we’re not talking about another Bran situation). Jaime decides that he needs to leave to be with his sister and long-term girlfriend, Cersei, and Brienne breaks down in tears begging him to stay. I can still hear the sigh from everyone in the room as we accepted that this was the point that good writing left the building.

The episode turned out like a bad soap-opera: Brienne cried, people spread secrets behind Daenerys’ back, Cersei did some evil things, blah blah blah. For an episode that had potential for showing some interesting character growth, it really just disappointed us over and over.
